Life After Getting Hit By A Car. You probably know Ovey Yeung. I do. (Facebook tells me we have seventy mutual friends in common.) She's a popular person and a regular social butterfly. On August 4th, 2014, she was the victim of a serious hit-and-run car accident. What followed was a roller coaster ride of emotions for her friends and family that played out all over social media and in the local news.

This weekend's HTML500 free coding event was a very popular attraction. The waitlist is over 2,200 people deep for the annual day-long, 500-person tutorial aiming to teach newbies how to code (HTML and CSS) and promote overall digital literacy in Canada.

VIFF 2014: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Screenwriter Nicole Perlman

Screenwriter Nicole Perlman is in town for the Vancouver International Film Festival and the newly revamped VIFF Industry Conference as a part of the Genre Smash! panel during Totally Indie Day on October 4th. She's most widely known as the first credited female screenwriter on a Marvel Studios film for her work writing on this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy, the year's highest grossing film domestically so far.

East Vancouver's R&B Brewing has launched a new beer pairing series in collaboration with five local chefs and restaurants. Each chef has created a special R&B brew matched with a dish to be released over the next six weeks.

Did you know April is National Oral Health Month? It’s time to reflect on our dental health and how to keep teeth strong, resilient, and healthy. Evidently, acid wear (acidic foods wearing your enamel) from your everyday diet is a factor in overall dental health. Sensodyne ProNamel threw a special dinner and interactive food tasting from Yew Executive Chef Ned Bell to showcase their efforts in helping Canadians be more conscious of their eating habits in relation to keeping more resistant to the effects of acidic foods.

Belgian street fashion brand Komono ("small things" in Japanese) showcased their current line and spring/summer selection of accessories. Known for their unique concept and approach to shapes and patterns, blending fashion and gender, the label has been creating distinct watches and retro-futuristic sunglasses since 2009, specializing in combining classic designs with modern styles. It was a night of reliving your childhood with booze, of course. Local artist/author Doug Coupland, as a part of crowdsourcing his next art project, got together with Jelly Marketing, the Vancouver Lego Club, and some "towering ambition" for an evening of drinks, hands-on tower building, and architectural discussion in creative celebration of Lego as an art supply.

Australia's Wyndham Estate celebrated its George Wyndham Founder’s Reserve Shiraz (Cuvée du Maître) vintage a as a rich, full-bodied wine on this night. Its oak nuance and ripe plum, blackberry fruit flavours hit the spot. The winery down under has dedicated its 2010 shiraz from Langhorne Creek to its founder's passion for creating of robust wines.

Secret Location debuted a new women's beauty section and previewed their fall/winter line of designer fashions and clothing in the spacious Gastown boutique and café. On the heels of their first-year anniversary, they'll be launching a menswear department and capsule of brands from Italy (Department 5) and Norway (Norwegian Rain) later this month. To close out summer and welcome rainy season, I got around to stopping by Earnest's brand new ice cream parlour for a cone of the good stuff for myself. Owners and dessert aficionados Ben Earnst and Erica Bernardi have been (not so) quietly hawking their locally sourced artisan flavours (made with quality ingredients) at nearby markets and shops (like here) before opening their own scoop shop.

However, the ever growing Mo' Bros and Mo' Sistas community here got together to remind us about men's health and how our special month is just around the corner. The renewed effort, dubbed "Movember & Sons" (after our bearded English folk rocker friends), emphasizes the family aspect and teaches all of us the importance of sticking together. So in celebration of all things moustache'd, we got together for a "family reunion" taking place at The Village on False Creek. Only three months out!

That time twice a year has stuck again. Trendsetters, fashionistas, and hipsters alike gathered to preview next spring/summer's skate, surf, boarding, and general youth lifestyle brands at KnowShow. This time's opening night show was anchored by the Endless Summer Fashion Presentation full of amusing beach bikini styles with (some very skinny and tanned) models adorned in retro swimwear from Roxy and Vitamin A Swimwear.

Every neighbourhood seems to have its own edition of Vancouver Farmers Markets (Trout Lake, Kitsilano, the West End, and Kerrisdale). What's special about the Main Street Station location is its the only one during the week and at night.
