SPOTLIGHT | Maddy Kelly Live x Just For Laughs x Fox Cabaret

"Consent is not a big part of tickling, historically."
Mount Pleasant—(February 18, 2026) Vancouver's very own Maddy Kelly, the now New York City-transplanted stand-up comedian, came back to town for another reliably sharp stage performance. Her latest set of jokes mostly delighted the familiar hometown crowd inside the Fox Cabaret music venue located at the nexus of Main Street and Kingsway as part of the city's annual eleven-day Just for Laughs Vancouver comedy festival.

IMBIBE | Good Thief x Rebellious Vietnamese x Riley Park

"It's a venture into the unexplored territories of flavour and design."
Good Thief | Anh and Chi Vietnamese Restaurant | Riley Park–Little Mountain, Vancouver

Riley Park–Little Mountain—(July 25, 2024) From co-founders/siblings Vincent and Amélie Thuy Nguyễn, the same "older brother and sister" duo behind the award-winning, authentic Vietnamese restaurant slyly named after themselves, Anh and Chi (since 2016), comes their hotly anticipated, recently opened next door culinary side project, the cheekily named Good Thief—a name purposely evoking a modern day Robin Hood.

SCREEN | Gillian Jacobs Finds 'The Seven Faces of Jane'

"Everyone struggles to find a version of themselves that they like."
Gillian Jacobs Roman Coppola | The Seven Faces of Jane
Gravitas Ventures
The Seven Faces of Jane, an experimental anthology indie road film conceived by producer Roman Coppola as an "exquisite corpse" blind collaboration starring Gillian Jacobs as the eponymous heroine, is a surrealist vision of a woman tumbling through eight different strange mini-adventures. It's an odd but often emotional series of small character pieces.

SCREEN | Being Vietnamese – 'No Crying at the Dinner Table'

"So let us listen. That's all."
Carol Nguyen | No Crying at the Dinner Table
Travelling Distribution
I have never seen anything so effectively document exactly what it feels like growing up in a Vietnamese-Canadian household than Toronto-born (now Montreal-based) filmmaker Carol Nguyen's award-winning documentary short film, No Crying at the Dinner Table. In the fifteen-minute short, she interviews her parents and sister as they therapeutically describe internalized past traumas around death and their lives as refugees, artfully intercut with intimate b-roll footage of them performing personal daily rituals revealing their vulnerabilities.

Review: 'High Maintenance' – A Web Series Worth Partaking In

Ben Sinclair | High Maintenance web series

High Maintenance is a much buzzed about, popular Brooklyn set web series created, written, and directed by the husband and wife team of Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld. Sinclair stars as the only series regular, a jovial, nameless pot dealer ("The Guy"), who makes deliveries on his bike to a series of quirky customers while getting a unique glimpse into their lives.

BCIT Broadcast Short Film: 'Command Z' – A Zombie Comedy

Every BCIT Broadcast Journalism student makes a short film or "fun feature" during their first semester. The best one each year is awarded the Jello Award. My group won last year.

This year's winner, Command Z, blows them all away. This 12-minute short film is a zombie comedy epic. It features some excellent writing and production values done by Rafferty Baker, Brittany DeAngelis, Mitch Pollock, Marc Staeling, and Anita Sthankiya including an opening narration by CKNW host Bill Good. Enjoy.
