SCREEN | Pamela Anderson Retires 'The Last Showgirl' x WFF 2024

"Las Vegas used to treat us like movie stars."
Brenda Song Gia Coppola | The Last Showgirl | Whistler Film Festival 2024
Whistler Film Festival
Vancouver Island native Pamela Anderson makes her on-screen starring role comeback (after her 2022 Broadway stage debut in Chicago) in third-generation filmmaker Gia Coppola's melodic, working-class Las Vegas indie drama. The Last Showgirl deromanticizes a past collective sense of "old Vegas" and its previously idealized facade of sexy glamour.

GENRE | Zack Snyder Awakens the 'Army of the Dead'

"This should be a simple in and out."
Nora Arnezeder Zack Snyder | Army of the Dead | Netflix
The Stone Quarry
Machismo director Zack Snyder returns to contemporary zombie spectacle after making his feature debut with the impressive 2004 remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. In Army of the Dead, he switches from a contained mall setting to an abandoned and dilapidated Las Vegas for his ultraviolent casino heist version of the horror staple with a "men on a mission" meets undead genre remix.

REEL | The Cast Steals It But 'Ocean's 8' is Not Enough

"Do not run a job in a job."
Anne Hathaway Gary Ross | Ocean's 8

Director Gary Ross does his best Steven Soderbergh—a close friend of his, the director of the Ocean's Eleven trilogy that loosely remade the original 1960 Rat Pack film, and a producer here—impression in the all-female led Ocean's Eight (as the title appears in the film) heist caper film. It's a worthy yet somehow too conventional a spin-off of the utterly watchable 2001 heist comedy.

Review: It All Ends – 'The Hangover Part III'

The Hangover was an inventive comedy full of fun and natural chemistry between its cast with a breakout performance by Zach Galifianakis. The Hangover Part II was a dark, twisted, and dreadfully dull, hateful beat for beat reconstruction of the original. The Hangover Part III is an often lazy, tired retread of the same story yet manages to still be laugh out loud funny. The third film goes to dark places and feels like an action movie injected with comedic bits. Surprisingly, I found most individual scenes far more enjoyable and crowd-pleasing than expected.

Vegas Baby, Vegas! Part 4: In-N-Out Burger x Animal Style

In-N-Out Burger on Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas on June 7, 2011.

In-N-Out Burger | Las Vegas, NV

Finally after years, I tried my very first In-N-Out Burger and, sufficed to say, it lived up to expectations. On my trip to Vegas land, my buddies and I walked down the South Las Vegas Blvd freeway to Dean Martin Drive to the In-N-Out just off the strip. It was a twenty minute walk from my hotel but we were determined.

Vegas Baby, Vegas! Part 3: Lunch x 4 Buffets x 4 Days

Four lunch buffets in four days at Aria, MGM Grand, and Monte Carlo in Las Vegas from June 6-9, 2011.

Aria, The Buffet | Las Vegas, NV

On my stay in sin city, my hotel gave me ten free breakfast or lunch buffet vouchers good at any of the MGM Grand network of hotels. Therefore, I ate a lot. I ate lunch buffets for four days straight trying The Buffet at Aria (twice), MGM Grand Buffet, and the Monte Carlo Buffet.

Las Vegas: Canucks Fever x Stanley Cup Final x Games 3 & 4

Watching the NHL Stanley Cup Final 2011: Games 3 & 4 – Vancouver Canucks vs. Boston Bruins at the Aria Resort & Casino Race & Sports Book lounge in Las Vegas on June 6 and 8, 2011.

Aria Resort & Casino | Las Vegas

I have no words. What a pair of absolutely terrible games to watch, particularly in the States. I told you last week, up 2 games to none, I was hitting up the Las Vegas strip for a quick getaway, hoping to cheer on the team from afar. I hit up the sports betting lounge at Aria to watch the games.
