IMBIBE | Patio Season x The Boxcar x Tacofino x Strathcona

Strathcona—(July 5, 2021) The Boxcar is already well on its way to having a fine summer thanks to its narrow but awesome carriageway space—sandwiched in-between the old Cobalt venue and Pizzeria Farina—leading into a pretty vibrant outdoor backlot patio tucked away off a back alley near the gates to Chinatown on Main Street.



Currently, one of Tacofino's food trucks is parked outside at the back of Boxcar being situated firmly amidst a sea of picnic tables, tents, and benches for the time being as it serves thirsty customers.

It's the place to be as they host a different rotating guest local chef and culinary team out of the truck weekly every Monday night throughout summer.

All that is a part of the Backyard Cookout series with a dollar from the weekly cocktail special going towards a different local charity.

Honestly, Cheers (with gin, grapefruit, lemon, blood orange, black tea syrup, and sparkling wine) +
piña colada (with rum, coconut cream, pineapple, and lime) + bramble slushie (with gin, Cassis, and lemon)

On this Monday, the food truck chef takeover gave way to Daly Gyles and Nick Gladu, two chefs who run a cafe called Oxeye on Galiano Island.

Their chefs' menu featured European dishes inspired by years of cooking in both Vancouver and London before getting away to island life.



Everything was a delight from the tasty variety of refreshing cocktails to the fancy street food made from fresh ingredients for some cool plates—the quail and mussels were both crazy delicious in particular.

Boxcar remains a fairly happening spot to be for its stellar outdoor setup and chill vibes in addition to their mighty cocktails enjoyed on a hot summer night.
