"How about we die alone together?"

3000 Pictures / Temple Hill Entertainment
Both Bader and Blyth, as Poppy and Alex, are extremely appealing, especially together, as opposites who bring out the best and worst in each other for a week on vacation once a year, including camping at Shannon Falls in Squamish. After a rough meet-cute start on a college road trip home as strangers from Boston to the same Ohio hometown, their antics around the world bond them before their opposing personalities and commitment issues start to clash.
Famous faces show up at various stages of their lives and travels without reappearing, outside of Jameela Jamil and Sarah Catherine Hook as Poppy's boss and Alex's on-again, off-again long-term girlfriend. There's of course the usual, expected contrivances to both put our love interests closer together before artificially separating them, but everything fits within the familiar rom-com genre rather neatly.
Most of People We Meet on Vacation is comforting fun, anchored by dual appealing lead performances, that embodies the cinematic version of a beach read. Once Bader and Blyth establish their characters' wants, flaws, and motivations, their travels get much more captivating. However, contrary to what the title suggests, Poppy and Alex do not really meet anyone particularly notable or interesting while on their various vacations together, other than each other, that is.
People We Meet on Vacation is available to stream on Netflix.
