GRUB | Nacho Time x The Drive Canteen x Commercial Drive

"Like a 7-Eleven, but better."

Commercial Drive—From the same team behind DownLow Chicken, partners Doug Stephen and Lindsey Mann, alongside Future Grownup founder Zach Wilcox, comes The Drive Canteen—a very East Van take on the convenience store riffing on late night snack food culture.

Their new corner shop-type retail concept, not totally unlike Dank Mart or Lucky's Bodega, includes local goods and a few grab-and-go snack items including a single-serve nacho concept (choose your toppings!) in addition to a variety of specialty "Glizzies" steamed Two Rivers hot dogs (aka steamies).

Na'cho Nachos (with queso, beef, chipotle crema, fresh pico salsa, cilantro, and onion) + cereal milk milkshake
Everything inside feels pretty detailed and thought out from the tasty made-to-order nachos, delightful snacks, and ice cream or iced beverages like specialty milkshakes, cold slushies, and even screamers.

The Canteen is clearly a passionate reflection of its proprietors and their cultural touchstones. Stephen's keen affinity for old school throwback culture (sneakers and hoodies!) and locally-made or fresh twists on nostalgic classics is never not endearing. Never mind all that, all the items are either fun or look scrumptious.
