GRUB | DownLow Chicken Shack x Opening x UBC

The DownLow Chicken Shack | UBC Campus | Vancouver, BC

UBCCommercial Drive's now-famous Downlow Chicken Shack finally opened its second location not long ago—they also serve DownLow Burgers out of The American bar—on campus and just in time for freshman students to enjoy on University Boulevard's stacked restaurant row full of dining options.

After three years of operating the original shack, the dynamic husband-and-wife duo owners, Doug Stephen and Lindsey Mann, plan on serving the same trademark (and crazy popular) Nashville hot fried chicken and sandos alongside their sometimes wacky, but never gimmicky, collaborations including specialty flavours or concoctions.

In typical Vancouver restaurant fashion, the Tennesseean-inspired purveyors of fried chicken only got the go-ahead and permits to open up their 1,654-square-foot fifty-seater counter-service eatery for customers a few days before opening as DL raced to get their second shack all set up and ready for the ceremonial end of summer after Labour Day.
