Salt & Straw's fresh made ice cream from locally sourced ingredients is simply delicious and easily the best I've ever had. We visited both their more centrally located Portland parlours for a couple scoops and flavours. My go to is their cinnamon snickerdoodle and its amazing cookie flavour. It's just like digging into a cold, moist cookie. I also dug their freckled Woodblock Chocolate for its sweet yet offbeat flavouring.

I also had a scoop of their coffee and bourbon (above) blend and its satisfying caffeinated taste made from Stumptown Coffee and Burnside Bourbon.

They run a pretty smooth operation as you can taste as many flavours as you want before ordering a scoop. They have a few oddly inventive and offbeat flavours. They also make their own waffle cones in house as you can smell it baking when you walk in.

I tried the champagne raspberry sorbet, birthday cake and blackberries, and their most popular flavour of sea salt caramel ribbon. All were tasty and interesting but didn't warrant a whole scoop on my part.

For some of the best ice cream around and great local flavours, S&S is a must visit. There's always a line up, but it's never not worth it.
