I had a coffee date with the lovely Miss Angela Jung (aka yellowrainbootz) and then dinner at Joyeaux Cafe & Restaurant (located at 551 Howe Street) on Friday night.

Since starting my social media internship at CBC, I have had a bunch of (sometimes random) requests from like-minded individuals asking to meet up with me and chat about various topics. One such request actually happened well before interning at CBC from Angela Jung. After her trek through Europe, we caught up and met up for coffee.
Angela is a UBC student who I share a few mutual friends with. She contacted me because she plans on attending the BCIT Broadcast Journalism program and wanted to pick my brain. She showed up eager with a lot of questions about broadcasting and social media. I have made a concerted effort to reach out to other interested broadcast journalists to better inform them what to expect after struggling through parts of it myself.
Angela has a popular YouTube channel of dating-themed streeters which everyone should definitely check out. I found her to be a delightfully charming and an immensely classy young woman. I am not sure how much I can help her but look forward to what she does for herself. She brings a great likable, conversational quality to her videos which are quite professional and entertaining.
I find it interesting talking to a diverse group of young people who are looking to get into broadcasting or online media. There are so many varied reasons and a lot of these young people (myself included) bring different qualities and backgrounds to the table. I feel this kind of diversity and open-mindedness is needed for new media to not only flourish but change the way we communicate.

Anyways, we eventually went out to dinner for some Vietnamese food. I will refrain from a longer dissection and say the cuisine was more or less satisfying yet still lacking the special punch of authenticity.
It was an interesting night of chatter on various facets of digital living in real-life and left pleased with the interaction.
I thought Angela was interesting and fun for various reasons. I enjoyed a few of her amusing comments about me over the course of the evening upon meeting me:

"You're like a dinosaur."
(I turn 24 at month's end and am less than two years older than her.)
"You look just like in your picture... Actually, you look much better in person than in your picture."
"You are really hairy."
(I had some light facial hair stubble.)

It's funny cause Angela said the same thing about me when we met tonight at the vanfoodster event.
"Actually, you look much better in person than in your picture." - Angela
I think perhaps she says that to all the people she meets online? haha... funny!
